I have not read Different Seasons yet, though I have seen the movie Stand Me. Since then it has been my favorite movie. I shall read the book. Chris is a great example of this everyone expected chris to grow up to be like the rest of his family too. Chris feels the need to prove everybody wrong he finishes school and gets a job as a lawyer. Another difference is in the movie it takes place one early earlier rather than in 1960, it takes place in 1959.
